Tanuvas University Bans Animal Experiments Using Forced Swim Test
TOI - Delhi · india
Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Tanuvas) has decided not to sanction any future animal experimentation proposals involving the Forced Swim Test (FST). This test, purportedly used to study human depression, involves administering substances to small animals and forcing them to swim to avoid drowning. Scientists argue that animals floating are conserving energy, not displaying depression. Tanuvas joins several other Indian institutions that have rejected FST after Peta India appeals, highlighting a growing concern over animal welfare in scientific research.
