Govt Rejects Claims of NEET Protestors' Biometrics on Criminal Database

The Indian government has refuted claims that biometric data of thousands of NEET-UG protestors was enrolled on national criminal databases. The Home Ministry, through the NCRB, filed an affidavit stating that blanket allegations of indefinite retention and sharing of biometric information lack factual basis. The government argued that the Rajya Sabha MP who made the assertion has not identified any specific instance of unlawful biometric collection or processing. The NCRB emphasized that such sweeping claims cannot substitute for concrete proof of infringement.

भारत सरकार ने इस दावों को खारिज कर दिया है कि हजारों NEET-UG प्रदर्शनकारियों के बायोमेट्रिक डेटा को राष्ट्रीय आपराधिक डेटाबेस पर दर्ज किया गया था। गृह मंत्रालय ने NCRB के माध्यम से एक हलफनामा दायर कर कहा कि बायोमेट्रिक जानकारी को अनिश्चित काल तक बनाए रखने और साझा करने के व्यापक आरोप तथ्यात्मक आधारहीन हैं। सरकार ने तर्क दिया कि राज्यसभा सांसद, जिन्होंने यह दावा किया था, ने किसी भी विशिष्ट मामले की पहचान नहीं की है जहां बायोमेट्रिक डेटा अवैध रूप से एकत्र या संसाधित किया गया हो। NCRB ने इस बात पर जोर दिया कि ऐसे व्यापक दावों से उल्लंघन के ठोस सबूत का विकल्प नहीं हो सकता।
