The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has announced its list of 40 Sportspersons of Outstanding Merit (SOM) ahead of its upcoming elections. Prominent former players like Bhaichung Bhutia, I.M. Vijayan, and Oinam Bembem Devi are included. Notably, no male footballers from Bengal made the final list. The inclusion of Ashalata Devi, who is yet to receive a No Objection Certificate from Railways, raises questions about her playing status as SOMs are typically considered retired.
