India Plans 50m Junk Food Curbs Near Schools

India is proposing new regulations to restrict the sale of high-fat and high-sugar foods within a 50-metre radius of its 1.5 million schools. This move aims to combat rising childhood obesity rates by discouraging unhealthy eating habits from a young age. The rule could affect numerous small businesses and multinational food companies. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India is driving these changes, with public feedback invited until October 6.

भारत सरकार स्कूलों के आस-पास 50 मीटर के दायरे में ज़्यादा फैट और चीनी वाले खाने की बिक्री पर रोक लगाने के लिए नए नियम ला रही है। इसका मकसद बच्चों में बढ़ते मोटापे को रोकना और बचपन से ही गलत खान-पान की आदतें कम करना है। इस नियम से कई छोटे-बड़े खाने के बिज़नेस प्रभावित हो सकते हैं। FSSAI इस बदलाव पर काम कर रहा है और 6 अक्टूबर तक लोगों से राय मांगी गई है।
