Gangai Amaran Questions Anirudh's Music, Lacks Tamil Identity and Lasting Appeal

Times of India · entertainment

Veteran composer Gangai Amaran has questioned the lasting appeal and Tamil identity of contemporary music, specifically targeting popular composer Anirudh Ravichander. Amaran stated that current young music directors, including Anirudh, have not produced songs with the enduring popularity of legends like Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman. He expressed concern that Tamil film music is changing significantly and that composers are creating music without fully understanding the language, thus failing to imbue it with Tamil identity. Despite these criticisms, Anirudh remains a highly sought-after composer with several major upcoming projects.
