The United Nations' human rights office has strongly condemned the racist abuse directed at tennis player Coco Gauff on social media following her China Open match. The UN stated that such vitriol and racial abuse, particularly targeting Black female athletes, have no place in sports. Gauff had reported receiving an "insane" amount of racist comments after a controversial point in her match against Sun Xinran. The UN called for solidarity among players, coaches, and sports bodies to push back against racism and sexism in sport.
