Kolkata Stampede: CM Orders Probe Into Home Guards' Role

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has ordered an investigation into the role of temporary home guards deployed at the Chorbagan Durga Puja pandal during the stampede that killed 19 people. He stated that these guards, serving for the third consecutive year, were responsible for managing the single entry-exit point. Adhikari claimed that one guard could not even speak Bengali, highlighting potential issues with recruitment and oversight. The probe will also scrutinize puja organizers and permission-issuing authorities, including the Kolkata Police and fire services department.

पश्चिम बंगाल के मुख्यमंत्री सुवेंदु अधिकारी ने चोरबगान दुर्गा पूजा पंडाल में भगदड़ के दौरान तैनात अस्थायी होमगार्ड्स की भूमिका की जांच के आदेश दिए हैं, जिसमें 19 लोगों की मौत हो गई थी। उन्होंने कहा कि ये गार्ड, जो लगातार तीसरे साल सेवा दे रहे थे, प्रवेश-निकास के एकल बिंदु का प्रबंधन कर रहे थे। अधिकारी ने दावा किया कि एक गार्ड बंगाली भी नहीं बोल सकता था, जो भर्ती और निगरानी में संभावित मुद्दों को उजागर करता है। जांच में पूजा आयोजकों और कोलकाता पुलिस और अग्निशमन विभाग सहित अनुमति देने वाले अधिकारियों की भी जांच की जाएगी।
