The Archbishop of Canterbury has withdrawn an interfaith award from Muslim cleric Maulana Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi. The Hubert Walter Award for Reconciliation and Interfaith Cooperation was given last Friday at Lambeth Palace. The decision followed the surfacing of past comments where Ashrafi praised Osama bin Laden. Lambeth Palace stated that previous remarks by Ashrafi had come to light, prompting reconsideration of the award.
