Indian-origin student spots lithium deposits with AI

Times of India · science

Beaverton sixth-grader Ishaan Dokania has developed a machine-learning model to identify potential lithium deposits using satellite imagery and geological data. His project, "Eye in the Sky: From Pixels to Predictions for Lithium and Beyond," achieved 89% accuracy in detecting these crucial resources. Dokania trained the model by analyzing patterns associated with known lithium sites, overcoming challenges like plant heat stress that could confuse the AI. This innovative approach aims to make the search for lithium, essential for modern technology like batteries, more efficient.
