Israeli President Isaac Herzog has implored political parties to collaborate and prevent a new election following an inconclusive vote. Neither Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's bloc, with 53 seats, nor the opposition alliance led by Gadi Eisenkot, with 48 seats, secured the 61 seats needed for a majority in the 120-member Knesset. The final seat distribution is pending the count of over 650,000 special ballots, which could potentially alter the outcome. Herzog will begin consultations next week after receiving official results to task a lawmaker with forming a government.
