Mysuru Dasara tusker Mahendra has been removed from consideration for carrying the Golden Howdah after failing a crucial 5km rehearsal. The elephant showed reluctance to carry a wooden howdah weighing approximately 1,000kg, stopping multiple times during the route from Mysuru Palace to Banni Mantap. Forest officials stated Mahendra's comfort and safety are paramount, and he will not be forced. This development poses a challenge for selecting a successor with only two weeks remaining before the main procession.
