Chennai Port Weather Radar To Be Replaced In 2027; Four New Units Planned

IMD will replace the S-band Doppler weather radar at Chennai Port in 2027, as the existing unit, operational since 2002, faces wear and tear. Ahead of the northeast monsoon, the radar has been restored and kept functional. IMD will also install four new Doppler weather radars in interior Tamil Nadu, specifically in Yercaud, Trichy, Kanyakumari, and Ramanathapuram. This expansion is part of a national initiative to add 16 new radars by March 2027, enhancing weather monitoring capabilities across the country.

चेन्नई पोर्ट पर लगे S-बैंड डॉपलर वेदर रडार को 2027 में बदल दिया जाएगा। यह रडार 2002 से काम कर रहा है और अब इसमें टूट-फूट हो रही है। उत्तर-पूर्वी मानसून से पहले, रडार को ठीक करके चालू रखा गया है। IMD तमिलनाडु के अंदरूनी हिस्सों में चार नए डॉपलर वेदर रडार भी लगाएगा। ये यरकौड, त्रिची, कन्याकुमारी और रामनाथपुरम में लगेंगे। यह देश भर में मौसम की निगरानी को बेहतर बनाने के लिए मार्च 2027 तक 16 नए रडार जोड़ने की एक राष्ट्रीय पहल का हिस्सा है।
