FSSAI Issues Notices to BigBasket, Flipkart Over Misleading Health Claims

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notices to BigBasket, Flipkart, and Gemini Edibles & Fats India Ltd regarding alleged misleading health claims for Freedom Cooking Rice Bran Oil. Promotional materials included claims about cholesterol reduction and references to 10,000 PPM Natural Oryzanol, which FSSAI stated are not permitted under current regulations. The companies have been asked to explain why action should not be taken against them under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. FSSAI also flagged potential e-commerce licensing issues for Gemini Edibles.
