US top court allows Trump voter verification system

The US Supreme Court has permitted the Trump administration to utilize a controversial voter verification system known as SAVE. This decision allows the Department of Homeland Security to check the eligibility of voters on state rolls. Voting rights groups have raised concerns that the system, revamped in 2025, could wrongly remove eligible citizens, citing an instance in Texas where 25 percent of identified non-citizens were actually citizens. While states are not mandated to use SAVE, some Republican-led states have opted in. The court's order is temporary, pending a final ruling.
