The Kerala High Court has expressed concern over the Motor Vehicle Department's reluctance to cancel driving licenses of individuals caught driving under the influence of alcohol. Justice Kausar Edappagath emphasized that this inaction weakens the Motor Vehicles Act's provisions aimed at deterring dangerous behavior. The court has directed the Transport Commissioner to ensure immediate and effective action under Section 19 of the Act for drunk driving cases.

केरल हाई कोर्ट ने शराब पीकर गाड़ी चलाने वालों के ड्राइविंग लाइसेंस रद्द करने में मोटर वाहन विभाग की हिचकिचाहट पर चिंता जताई है। जस्टिस कौसर एडप्पागथ ने जोर देकर कहा कि इस निष्क्रियता से खतरनाक व्यवहार को रोकने के लिए मोटर वाहन अधिनियम के प्रावधान कमजोर होते हैं। कोर्ट ने परिवहन आयुक्त को अधिनियम की धारा 19 के तहत शराब पीकर गाड़ी चलाने के मामलों में तत्काल और प्रभावी कार्रवाई सुनिश्चित करने का निर्देश दिया है।
