Saudi-Pakistan Defence Pact Promises Much, But Delivers Little on Ground

Pakistan has denied reports of its forces striking Houthis in Yemen amidst ongoing Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. Despite signing defence agreements with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, Pakistan and Türkiye have not intervened militarily. The Mecca Joint Defence Agreement and the Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement, signed in August and 2025 respectively, have yet to yield tangible support. While Pakistan maintains a fighter aircraft squadron in Saudi Arabia, the formal understanding remains without impact on the ground. Türkiye is assessing potential contributions in areas like air defence and electronic warfare.
