Altitude Travel Can Affect Your Ears Temporarily

HT - Lifestyle · lifestyle

Travelling to high altitudes can temporarily affect your hearing due to changes in air pressure. As you ascend, lower external pressure causes the air in your middle ear to push the eardrum outward, leading to a feeling of fullness and muffled sounds. This sensation usually resolves as pressure equalizes. Conditions like colds or allergies can worsen these effects by blocking the Eustachian tube, potentially causing ear barotrauma. At very high elevations, some individuals may also experience tinnitus or balance changes.
