उत्तर प्रदेश के ग़ाज़ीपुर की एक अदालत ने सुनीता नाम की एक महिला को उसके तीन बच्चों को ज़हर देने के आरोप में उम्रकैद की सज़ा सुनाई है और उस पर 50,000 रुपये का जुर्माना भी लगाया है। यह घटना अगस्त 2022 में हुई थी जब सुनीता ने पारिवारिक झगड़े के बाद अपने मायके में बच्चों को ज़हरीली चाय पिला दी थी। दो बच्चों की मौके पर ही मौत हो गई थी, जबकि तीसरे बच्चे की अस्पताल में इलाज के दौरान ज़हर से मौत हो गई। अदालत ने इस कृत्य को मानवता और पवित्र माँ-बच्चे के रिश्ते के लिए शर्मनाक बताया और इस बात पर ज़ोर दिया कि बच्चे अपनी माँ पर कितना भरोसा करते हैं।
