In the Mughal Empire, individuals were identified not just by name but also by titles, ranks, lineage, and Mansabs, each carrying distinct meanings. Titles signified prestige, lineage, service, and proximity to the emperor, while Mansabdari was a separate administrative and military system. Titles were bestowed to honor nobles, generals, scholars, and royal family members, enhancing their status and demonstrating loyalty. These titles were not static, their meaning evolving with time, the court, and the individual, with some holding multiple names and positions.
