Maharashtra's revenue department has issued a circular barring sub-registrars from registering property documents lacking mandatory permissions or supporting papers. The directive, effective, also prohibits registration if a flat's area exceeds the approved dimensions in the sanctioned building plan. This move aims to curb irregularities in buildings constructed without permission and prevent financial losses for buyers. The restrictions apply to various property transaction documents across the state, including first sales and sale deeds. Sub-registrars can now refuse registration and face departmental inquiries for violations.
