The Union government has amended rules to permit vehicles designed for flex-fuel to operate on E100, a fuel composed of nearly 100% ethanol. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways issued a notification on Friday, with the changes becoming effective on Monday. These modified rules allow flex-fuel vehicles to run on E100 as well as E85, which is an 85% ethanol and 15% petrol blend. This development expands the fuel options for vehicles equipped with flex-fuel technology, potentially promoting the use of ethanol.
