China has vehemently rejected accusations of genocide in Xinjiang, labelling a US congressional panel's criticism of Starbucks' new stores in the region as a "blatant lie." The US House Select Committee on China had called Starbucks' decision to open two outlets in Urumqi "morally bankrupt." China's foreign ministry spokesperson stated the committee fabricated claims for political purposes and lacks credibility. Beijing maintains its policies in Xinjiang aim to combat terrorism and promote stability, economic prosperity, and ethnic unity. Starbucks has indicated it will continue investing in the region.
