Times of India · spirituality
At 31, Japanese monk Sogaku Taguchi has begun an extreme religious discipline of 12 years of complete isolation. Taguchi, chief monk of Nanzambo Temple, will not leave the temple grounds or meet anyone until September 11, 2038. He will reside at Jodo-in hall, dedicated to Saicho, the founder of the Tendai school of Buddhism. His routine involves strict religious observance, cleaning the hall, and preparing food offerings daily. Taguchi is only the 118th person to undertake this rare role since 1699.
