Forest Minister Shibu Baby John stated that only illegal and unauthorised fencing was being dismantled, citing safety concerns and recent deaths, including an elephant attack. The government explained that the District Collector's order, invoking the Disaster Management Act, was based on demands from tribal residents and aimed to protect lives. The opposition alleged human rights violations and a conspiracy to reclassify land.

गुरुवार को केरल विधानसभा में विपक्ष ने तब वॉकआउट किया जब लेफ्ट डेमोक्रेटिक फ्रंट (LDF) ने चिनक्कनाल में बाड़ हटाने को लेकर स्थगन प्रस्ताव पेश किया। वन मंत्री शिबू बेबी जॉन ने कहा कि केवल अवैध और अनधिकृत बाड़ ही हटाई जा रही है, और उन्होंने सुरक्षा चिंताओं और हाल की मौतों का हवाला दिया, जिसमें एक हाथी का हमला भी शामिल था। सरकार ने समझाया कि जिला कलेक्टर का आदेश, जिसमें आपदा प्रबंधन अधिनियम का आह्वान किया गया था, आदिवासी निवासियों की मांगों पर आधारित था और इसका उद्देश्य जीवन की रक्षा करना था। विपक्ष ने मानवाधिकारों के उल्लंघन और भूमि को फिर से वर्गीकृत करने की साजिश का आरोप लगाया।
