Najafgarh Wetland Drying Up, Threatening Migratory Birds

Times of India · environment

Ecologist TK Roy has warned that major parts of the Najafgarh wetland, crucial for migratory birds in Delhi NCR, are nearly dry and could completely dry up within a month. This poses a significant threat to the diversity and numbers of birds that depend on the wetland for feeding and habitat. Roy observed a reduced number of migratory and resident species during a recent visit, attributing the delayed arrival and potential decline to climate change and habitat loss. Globally, many migratory bird populations and their habitats are facing decline.
