NYC Mayor Plans to Use Subway Heat to Warm City Buildings in Winter

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has proposed a novel plan to combat subway station heat by repurposing it. A feasibility study is underway for a thermal energy network at the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall and Chambers Street station complex. The system would capture heat from platforms during summer, store it underground, and then use it to warm nearby city buildings in winter.
