Bengaluru AI Traffic Enforcement Faces Scrutiny After Guitar Mistaken for Pillion Rider

The Hindu · india

Bengaluru's AI-powered traffic enforcement system is under scrutiny after a motorist was wrongly fined for a helmet violation. The Artificial Intelligence camera mistook a guitar strapped to his back for a pillion rider, leading to an incorrect challan. While the AI system, part of the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) adopted in December 2022, aims to minimise human intervention, this incident highlights potential errors. The Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) acknowledges that anomalies can occur, stating that a balance between AI and human review yields the best results.
