Kerala Govt Halts Horti-Wine Sales Outside Bevco Amidst Licence Row
Times of India · politics
The Kerala government has suspended the sale of horti-wine, an alcoholic beverage with 15.5% alcohol content, through bakeries, malls, and supermarkets. This decision follows a controversy over a licence granted to a bakery in Chalakudy. The excise department has removed the deputy commissioner who issued the licence and is seeking legal advice on withdrawing the permission. The government clarified the licence was issued without the knowledge of the chief minister and excise minister. This move comes as the government reviews its liquor policy regarding sales outside state-run outlets.
