Goa Scrapyard Policy Remains Unfulfilled Promise

A comprehensive policy to relocate illegal scrapyards in Goa, promised over a year ago, has yet to materialise. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had assured the assembly that the policy would be formulated within six months. The Goa Waste Management Corporation is still in the preliminary stages of drafting the policy. Meanwhile, illegal scrapyards continue to pose hazards, with recent fires and concerns over environmental damage and aesthetic blight near heritage sites. The waste management department currently lacks the authority to act against existing illegal scrapyards.

गोवा में अवैध कबाड़खानों को हटाने की नीति अभी तक नहीं बनी है। मुख्यमंत्री प्रमोद सावंत ने विधानसभा में कहा था कि यह नीति छह महीने में तैयार हो जाएगी, लेकिन एक साल बाद भी गोवा वेस्ट मैनेजमेंट कॉर्पोरेशन इसका मसौदा तैयार करने के शुरुआती दौर में है। इस बीच, अवैध कबाड़खाने आग लगने और पर्यावरण को नुकसान पहुंचाने जैसी समस्याएं पैदा कर रहे हैं।
