The individual who initially posted about the rumour on social media has been identified but claims to have heard it from others. The government also stated that 15 arrests have been made, including students and outsiders, and the investigation is ongoing.

पंजाब सरकार ने पंजाब और हरियाणा हाई कोर्ट को सूचित किया है कि 26 सितंबर को लवली प्रोफेशनल यूनिवर्सिटी (एलपीयू) में हुई हिंसा के पीछे कथित रेप की घटना की जांच में अब तक कोई पुष्टि नहीं हुई है। सोशल मीडिया पर अफवाह फैलाने वाले व्यक्ति की पहचान हो गई है, लेकिन उसने दावा किया है कि उसने यह दूसरों से सुना था। सरकार ने यह भी बताया कि छात्रों और बाहरी लोगों सहित 15 लोगों को गिरफ्तार किया गया है और जांच जारी है।
