US Lawmakers Demand Hate Crime Probe Into Illinois Temple Attack

Over 100 US lawmakers have urged FBI Director Kash Patel to investigate an attempted shooting at a Hindu temple in Illinois as a federal hate crime. The group, including four Senators and led by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, also sought information on measures addressing online threats against Indian-Americans. Their letter followed an incident where a 19-year-old allegedly attempted to open fire at the Sri Venkateswara Swami temple in Aurora. The lawmakers expressed concern over communications that risk amplifying hostility towards these communities, citing previous instances of racial and religious stereotyping.

100 से ज़्यादा अमेरिकी सांसदों ने FBI डायरेक्टर काश पटेल से इलिनॉय में एक हिंदू मंदिर पर हुए गोलीबारी के प्रयास की संघीय हेट क्राइम के तौर पर जांच करने की अपील की है। सांसदों के इस समूह में चार सीनेटर भी शामिल हैं और इसका नेतृत्व कांग्रेसी राजा कृष्णमूर्ति कर रहे हैं। उन्होंने भारतीय-अमेरिकियों के खिलाफ ऑनलाइन धमकियों से निपटने के उपायों के बारे में भी जानकारी मांगी है। यह पत्र ऑरोरा में श्री वेंकटेश्वर स्वामी मंदिर में 19 साल के एक युवक द्वारा गोलीबारी का प्रयास करने की घटना के बाद आया है।
