सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने मध्य प्रदेश के बालाघाट में लगभग 32 आदिवासी बच्चों की मौत को "बेहद दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण" बताया है। कोर्ट केंद्र और मध्य प्रदेश व छत्तीसगढ़ सरकारों से पीड़ितों के परिवारों के लिए मुआवजे और कुपोषण व पीने के पानी की कमी से पीड़ित अन्य बच्चों की सुरक्षा के उपायों के बारे में जवाब माँग रहा है। एक याचिका में कहा गया है कि शुरुआती चेतावनियों को नजरअंदाज किया गया, जिससे यह त्रासदी हुई, और गंभीर रूप से कुपोषित बच्चों में खसरा-रूबेला से मौत की पुष्टि हुई है।
