Delhi's Major Roads Only 35% Mechanically Cleaned, Air Quality Body Finds

Times of India · environment

An assessment by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) reveals that only 35-40% of Delhi's large and medium-sized roads are cleaned by mechanised road sweeping machines (MRSMs) on an alternate basis, falling short of the norm to cover the entire road network. Delhi possesses nearly 100 MRSMs, fewer than the required 172. These machines are ineffective on roads with encroachments or illegal parking. Dust is a significant contributor to Delhi's air pollution, accounting for substantial percentages of PM10 and PM2.5, especially during summer.
