Virginia Senator L. Louise Lucas has been indicted on racketeering and conspiracy charges related to a "criminal marijuana enterprise." The FBI alleges Lucas, 82, used her position as Chairwoman of the Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee to shield the operation from scrutiny and influence legislation for personal gain. Six others, including family members, were also indicted. Lucas, who denies the charges, claims the indictment is a political attack. The investigation followed raids on locations linked to her businesses, The Cannabis Outlet and The CBD Shoppe.
