Times of India · environment
A 400-km 'Oran Bachao' march has commenced from Mata Tanot Rai temple near the India-Pakistan border in Jaisalmer, aiming to protect and register Oran lands in government revenue records. Hundreds of villagers and activists are participating in the 12-13 day journey. Organizers emphasize that these lands are crucial for faith, cultural heritage, livestock, and the environment. While some steps have been taken previously, activists believe they are insufficient, prompting this new march to draw government attention to the issue. The movement's future actions will depend on the government's response.
