Yosemite Park Slashes Himalayan Blackberry Infestation by 96% in One Year

Times of India · environment

Yosemite National Park has successfully reduced a Himalayan blackberry infestation by 96% in just one year. In 2009, an 8.65-acre area was treated with herbicide, and by 2010, only 0.34 acres remained infested. This targeted herbicide application proved highly effective, marking a significant improvement over previous manual and mechanical control methods. Invasive species like Himalayan blackberry threaten native vegetation and can alter ecosystems, impacting local wildlife and increasing human-bear interactions near developed areas. Yosemite now combines herbicides with other methods for comprehensive invasive plant management.
