Sebi whole-time member Sandip Pradhan stated that regulatory flexibility for alternative investment funds (AIFs) signifies increased responsibility for the industry, not merely a relaxation. Speaking at a CII summit, Pradhan emphasized that regulations must become more data-driven and risk-based. He highlighted the need to balance industry demands for flexibility with concerns about governance, conflicts of interest, and investor protection. Pradhan also noted that upcoming changes to the accreditation framework could potentially expand the accredited investor pool from 2,000 to around 400,000.
