Maharashtra Tightens Property Paperwork Rules For Out-of-Taluka Registrations
Times of India · business
Maharashtra's state government has mandated prior scrutiny by senior registration officials for property documents registered outside the property's taluka. This new rule, effective, grants officials two days to review documents for potential stamp duty evasion, undervaluation, and legal encumbrances. The move aims to curb irregularities within the state's 'one district one registration' scheme. Joint sub-registrars must now seek permission and provide an opinion before registering documents related to properties outside their taluka, ensuring greater oversight in property transactions across the district.
