Darbhanga MLC Seat Result Declared After 57-Hour Vote Counting Marathon

Hindustan Times · politics

The Darbhanga Graduates’ constituency in Bihar Legislative Council elections finally saw its result declared after a lengthy 57-hour vote counting process. RJD candidate Anil Kumar Jha emerged victorious, defeating sitting BJP MLC Sarvesh Kumar by 4,010 votes. The prolonged counting was attributed to the high number of 40 candidates and the complex proportional representation system requiring a specific vote quota. As no candidate initially met the winning quota, an elimination process involving the transfer of preference votes was necessary to determine the final winner.
