The Madras High Court has criticised the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) and the state government for their failure to provide civic infrastructure with the same enthusiasm they show in collecting taxes. The court noted that while citizens face coercive action for non-payment of taxes, the authorities are not equally prompt in delivering essential services. This disparity, especially concerning roads and footpaths, was highlighted as a serious issue requiring immediate attention. The court has granted two weeks for an action taken report on improving infrastructure and clearing encroachments.
