सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने भारतीय रेलवे को आदेश दिया है कि 27 अक्टूबर 2026 से रेलवे स्टेशन के काउंटरों पर टिकट खरीदने वाले यात्रियों को भी यात्रा बीमा का लाभ दिया जाए। यह फैसला 6 अक्टूबर को लिया गया है और इसका मकसद यात्रियों को फायदा पहुंचाना है, खासकर आर्थिक रूप से कमजोर वर्ग के लोगों को जो अक्सर ऑफलाइन टिकट खरीदते हैं। कोर्ट ने ओडिशा ट्रेन दुर्घटना के बाद यात्री सुरक्षा उपायों, जिसमें बीमा कवरेज और कवच प्रणाली शामिल है, पर रेलवे की धीमी प्रगति पर असंतोष जताया था। इस बीमा आदेश को लागू करने के लिए रेलवे बोर्ड को सीधे तौर पर जवाबदेह ठहराया जाएगा।
