The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) is planning to remove companies with no economic activity from stock exchanges to protect investors from potential risks. SEBI Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey stated that such inactive companies are vulnerable to misuse by market manipulators for 'pump and dump operations'. The regulator is employing artificial intelligence tools to identify suspicious accounts and protect retail investors. SEBI also proposed changes to strengthen the SME listing framework and plans relaxations for foreign portfolio investors.
