China's AEW&C Aircraft Fleet Expands India Faces Surveillance Gap

Times of India · world

New satellite imagery reveals four Chinese KJ-3000 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft at a factory, suggesting serial production is underway. This expansion bolsters China's already substantial fleet of around 70 AEW&C aircraft, which includes KJ-500 and KJ-2000 models. In contrast, India's airborne early warning capabilities are significantly smaller, with only three Israeli Phalcon and three indigenous Netra Mk I aircraft currently operational. India has an estimated requirement for at least 18 such platforms, highlighting a considerable numbers game in regional aerial surveillance.
