Real Madrid secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Villarreal, with Yan Diomande scoring the decisive goal. The win keeps Real Madrid six points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona. Despite playing with ten men for the final stages, Real Madrid held on to claim the three points and provisionally move into third place in the league standings. Kylian Mbappe was fit to start but remained goalless.
