Team Icarus from IIIT Dharwad has achieved fourth place in the ISRO Robotics Challenge–URSC (IRoC-U) 2026, winning a ₹2 lakh prize. The seven-member team was among 20 finalists selected for the challenge held at the U.R. Rao Satellite Centre in Bengaluru. They developed an autonomous heavy-payload quadcopter capable of operating in a simulated Mars-like environment without GPS. The drone could navigate, identify targets, and execute missions autonomously. This achievement highlights the students' technical skills and IIIT Dharwad's capabilities in autonomous robotics for space exploration.
