Banks' Body to Ensure No MDR on UPI

The Centre will ask the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) to run awareness campaigns and establish a mechanism to prevent proposed charges on certain UPI transactions from being passed on to consumers. From October 15, a 0.4% merchant discount rate (MDR) will apply to specific person-to-merchant UPI transactions over ₹2,000. However, person-to-person transactions and those up to ₹2,000 will remain free, affecting only about 4% of merchant transactions.

सरकार इंडियन बैंक्स एसोसिएशन (IBA) से कहेगी कि वे जागरूकता अभियान चलाएं और एक सिस्टम बनाएं ताकि कुछ UPI ट्रांजैक्शन पर लगने वाले नए चार्ज ग्राहकों से न वसूले जाएं। 15 अक्टूबर से, ₹2,000 से ऊपर के कुछ मर्चेंट UPI ट्रांजैक्शन पर 0.4% MDR लगेगा। लेकिन, लोगों से लोगों को होने वाले ट्रांजैक्शन और ₹2,000 तक के ट्रांजैक्शन फ्री रहेंगे। इससे केवल करीब 4% मर्चेंट ट्रांजैक्शन ही प्रभावित होंगे।
