Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid, and La Liga have issued apologies following controversial remarks made by the French striker about Mao Zedong. Mbappe appeared to mock the former Chinese leader in a video, sparking outrage and leading to major Chinese brands cutting ties with him. Spanish top-flight matches were also removed from state television schedules. Experts suggest the damage to their reputation in China will be difficult to repair quickly, despite the apologies being taken seriously by the government.
