Fossil Jaws Push Marsupial Origin Back 5 Million

Six tiny fossil jaws discovered in Queensland, Australia, have pushed the origin of the continent's carnivorous marsupials back by five million years. Dating to twenty-three million years ago, these fossils belong to a new species, Miyumba chrisdickmani, found in ancient rainforests. This discovery fills a significant gap in Australia's evolutionary history, suggesting dasyurid origins in wet habitats before adapting to drier environments.

ऑस्ट्रेलिया के क्वींसलैंड में छह छोटे जीवाश्म जबड़े मिले हैं। इनसे पता चला है कि महाद्वीप के मांसाहारी धानीप्राणियों (marsupials) का इतिहास पाँच मिलियन साल पुराना है। ये जीवाश्म तेईस मिलियन साल पुराने हैं और एक नई प्रजाति, Miyumba chrisdickmani के हैं, जो पुराने वर्षावनों में पाई गई। इस खोज से ऑस्ट्रेलिया के विकास के इतिहास का एक महत्वपूर्ण खालीपन भरा है।
