Heavy Rain Lashes Salem, Causing Widespread Waterlogging and Traffic Disruptions

Heavy rainfall on Wednesday evening has caused significant waterlogging across several parts of Salem city, impacting traffic and inundating shops. Low-lying areas including the Old Bus Stand, Shevapet, and Gugai, as well as the Seelanaickenpatti Bypass on the Salem-Chennai National Highway, were severely affected. Accumulated rainwater disrupted peak-hour traffic for nearly an hour, forcing motorists to navigate submerged roads cautiously. Residents have attributed the recurring flooding to inadequate stormwater and underground drainage infrastructure, urging the Salem City Municipal Corporation to improve these systems before the heavier northeast monsoon arrives.

बुधवार शाम को हुई भारी बारिश के कारण सलेम शहर के कई हिस्सों में बड़े पैमाने पर जलभराव हो गया, जिससे यातायात प्रभावित हुआ और दुकानें डूब गईं। पुराने बस स्टैंड, शेवापेट और गुगई जैसे निचले इलाकों के साथ-साथ सलेम-चेन्नई नेशनल हाईवे पर सीलानाइकनपट्टी बाईपास भी गंभीर रूप से प्रभावित हुए। जमा हुए बारिश के पानी ने लगभग एक घंटे तक पीक-ऑवर ट्रैफिक को बाधित किया, जिससे वाहन चालकों को डूबी सड़कों पर सावधानी से चलना पड़ा।
