Pensioners Demand Reduction in Commutation Period From 15 to 11 Years

Aaj Tak · india

Pensioners' organizations are urging the government to reduce the 15-year period for restoring commuted pension benefits to 11 or 12 years. They argue that the commuted amount and interest are typically recovered within 10-12 years, making the extended 15-year deduction financially burdensome for retirees. This demand has been presented to the 8th Pay Commission. However, two High Courts have previously dismissed petitions challenging the existing 15-year rule, stating that employees voluntarily opted for commutation. The government has yet to make a decision on this matter.
